This story is about two people in love who break up on very bad terms and reconnect 12 years later. As they meet by chance at some hotel in their home town a lot of old feeling resurface and apologies are made. Dana, the heroine of the story, feels betrayed and even though she still harbors a very strong physical and emotional attraction towards Vince she takes her time sorting through her feelings.
The beginning of the book was a bit choppy for me and hard to get into. It was strange how the author dove right into it from the very first page and described the chance encounter of Dana and Vince right away. I would have preferred some kind of explanation of what Dana looks like and a glimpse of what kind of woman she is before the conflicts strikes.
By the middle of the story, however, once the author shed some light on the history of the two main characters I felt more engaged. I like Dana because she seems like a very emotionally mature woman. I like her thought process and how she arrives at making certain decisions. My heart certainly hurts for her.
I was not able to connect with Vince's character probably because the story is rather short and does not go much into character development. I found him somewhat creepy from the scene in the hotel room in the beginning of the book. At that point I didn't know that Dana and Vince were so close and practically grew up together so needless to say I was outraged by his behavior. And I must admit I have rolled my eyes at least once.
What I did not enjoy was how bland the read was. The story is nothing original, there isn't much of a conflict going on and there is lack of sexual tension between two main characters. It's just a sweet love story of two people who clearly belong together but get separated in their youth because of some stupid mistakes and impulsive decisions. The ending was just too quick and peachy for me.
I rate this book 2 out of 4 stars. While I didn't hate it, I certainly did not love it. I am not sure this short story has enough substance to become a full size book; there certainly would need to be a lot more character development and romantic scenes. I feel like this story would greatly benefit from more physical interaction between two main characters. The majority of readers for romance novels are women and we certainly do like some steam or at the very least a bit of sizzle.
