Yesterday: A Novel of Reincarnation by Samyann is a mixture of romance and historical fiction. The story begins when Amanda saves Chicago Police Officer Mark from a horrible train accident. They both had a sense of deja vu, and it was so strong that it drew them together. However, this story is not about how Amanda saved Mark's life. It gets deeper when Amanda purchases a unique antique grandfather clock that appeals to her and Mark, which causes the connection between them to grow stronger. Due to the appeal of the grandfather clock, Amanda decides to try hypnotism and learns that she was a little girl named Bonnie who grew up during the civil war era. Further, into her sessions, Amanda and Mark discovered they were more deeply connected than they had thought.

This book was enjoyable; I did not want to put it down. The storyline had just enough spice to keep the romance going and history to keep you intrigued. Even though it was a story of love and loss, there was a balance. I loved how the chapters would jump from modern-day Chicago to the deep south, then to the past of the Chicago fries. Samyann did a great job of giving you enough detail to keep your interest.

I did not have many dislikes about this book. The last chapter could have ended differently; it made you want more from the story. I was expecting more of a surprise, and I got a cliffhanger. I was disappointed because the events building up to the last chapter made you feel that the ending would have more detail and suspense.

I would happily rate this book 4 out of 4 stars because the book was engaging. I felt the plot was well written. I enjoyed the building of Amanda and Mark's relationship. You could feel the connection between them growing as they went through different situations with each other. Samyann did a great job connecting the present with the past; you can tell the author did a great deal of research for the book.

I would gladly recommend this book to readers 18 and older because the book does contain sexual content and profanity. This book would appeal to those who love romance, history, and reincarnation. Overall, the book was well-written, with great characters and suspenseful scenes. I hope a sequel will follow because I would most definitely read it.
