My Trip to Adele by R.I. Alyaseer and A.I. Alyaseer is a romance novel that follows the stories of three different people as they overcome obstacles to attempt to fix the failings in their relationships. Elias makes his way from Rome, Italy to El-Fnaa Square in Marrakesh in search of Malika, a girl he’d fallen in love with years ago. His journey takes him through his recollections of their time together on the mountain and their conversations about hopes and dreams. He left her with the promise to meet her again one day at an Adele concert. Nadia struggles to break free of her former husband, whose control extends farther than she is happy with. Nadia and her son Waleed share a love for Adele and plan a trip together to see her in concert. Yaser and his wife Miriam are trapped in a loveless marriage, struggling to find some spark they can use to rekindle the love they once had. Yaser plans a trip to the Adele concert to try to see if there is anything left to save. Because of Adele’s music, the three couples’ lives are changed for the better and they discover important things about themselves and their relationships along the way.

This book had several things I enjoyed. The pacing of the three tales was perfect and the timelines weren’t hard to understand. The authors did a good job of being perfectly clear which story was being told per chapter as well as when things were taking place. The three stories were each unique as well. While the Adele concert was the goal for all three stories, it was not the driving factor that caused character growth. The people felt real and genuine to me as though they could be someone I’d meet in real life. The ending was satisfying and well thought out.

At the beginning of Elias’s tale, at one point a psychic tells him his love had been sabotaged via a magic ritual. I still am unsure how this person knew that bit of information, nor what relevance it had to the plot other than to be a convenient way to get him to El-Fnaa Square. I feel that the authors could have chosen a different way to get Elias to the setting he needed to be in. Magic doesn’t play too big a role in the book in general, and so it was unclear why it was used in that instant. Also, although the chapters included several passages from Adele’s music, I didn’t feel they were truly necessary to the story. They didn’t add any value to me nor really give any extra insight into the plot or characters’ thoughts.

Overall this book was enjoyable and was professionally edited with only a few errors. I give this book 3 out of 4 stars. The writing was polished and the story flowed really well. The three separate storylines wove together and transitioned seamlessly from one to the next. Although this is a novel in the romance genre, there are no curse words or explicit scenes in the story, which is refreshing.

This book would be a good read for anyone that is a fan of the romance genre or Adele. It is suitable for young adults and older. Those people that enjoy getting glimpses of life in other cultures would also find this book enjoyable.
