The Prodigy Slave, Book One: Journey to Winter Garden by Londyn Skye, tells a compelling story of a slave who was torn from her mother at a young age. Throughout this story you see a beautiful and unique friendship build between the slave, Lily, and the slave owner's son, James. Soon this friendship is tested multiple times as the kids grow older. James leaves for college and does not return home for years while Lily is stuck believing that her childhood best friend has abandoned her. James eventually turns home to catch Lily disobeying his father's rules. Not long before James has Lily believing she is going to bread at a breeder’s farms to gain money for James family farm. It all takes a twist and you a see a compelling story of Lily finding her dreams to come true all while Lily and James find their place with each other.

The book told a fascinating story that left you wanting to find out more. There were many different cliff hangers throughout the book that made it almost impossible to put the book down. The descriptive language makes you feel as if you are standing in the room with each of the characters. You are never lost when a new character comes in as the description for each character gives you a great detail on who they are. The book has great detail and was enjoyable to read.

I personally had a hard time finishing the book. This was due to how long the book was. I felt as if the book dragged on. It did tell a wonderful story of this young women’s dreams and aspirations, but at points during the middle of the book it dragged on and took a long time to get the point across.

I would rate the book three out of four stars. This is because I did have a hard time finishing the book because of how it dragged things on, but at the same time I was not able to put the book down. You felt many different emotions throughout the book and there were many cliff hangers especially near the end. I was left with many questions once I did finish the book.

I would suggest this book to adult readers who like to read romances where you are not able to guess what will happen. I would advise that this book does cover some abusive topics along with suicidal tendencies.
