Life is full of twists and turns that can both have a negative and positive impact on a person’s life. Glenn Vo emphasizes this truth throughout the story. In the novel 2612 Cherryhill Lane by Glenn Vo, he illustrates a heartwarming story that embraces the themes of forgiveness and faith. He acknowledges that the future changes for better or for worse and the only thing to do is the better one's self and move on.
The novel surrounds the main character, Jonathan McCalister, once a star quarterback who had everything a teenager could ever want who loses everything within seconds. After the accident, Jonathan loses hope in everything, realizing that his once-promising future is now gone. However, once he meets a hopeful, spirited girl by the name of Samantha Reid, he learns that God has a plan for all and that even when tragedy occurs there is still a way to move on. Jonathan learns to forgive himself and others by dealing with numerous obstacles that occur throughout the story.
2612 Cherryhill Lane is a beautifully written and heartwarming novel that will easily have you rethinking your priorities. It is a fast and simple read that will leave you in awe long after you finish. The character development throughout the story is well-paced and phenomenal. Vo does a great job describing the development of the characters throughout the story. Although the novel was well written, there were a few instances throughout the story that I did not enjoy. For instance, the repetition of diction grows tiresome after some time. The dialogue between the young characters as well did not seem accurate to the way young adults actually speak in my opinion.
Considering the positive and negative aspects I found in this novel I would rate it a 3 out of 4 stars. Overall the novel was an excellent read that I felt to be an inspirational story that allows its readers to reflect. Vo did a fantastic job illustrating the novel that easily allowed for me to place myself within the story as if I were experiencing it as well.
I truly recommend this novel for those who want to read a fast and simple read. This novel honestly had a little bit of everything. The novel possessed romance, tragedy, drama, and faith. This novel can easily be enjoyed by teens and adults that are looking for a moving story in which they hope will have an effect long after.
