The Legacy of Job’s Wife by Cynthia Koelker is an excellent fictional account of the Biblical Life of Job and his family. The story of Biblical Job started like this. There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job; and that man was perfect and upright, and one that feared God, and eschewed evil. And there were born unto him seven sons and three daughters. His substance also was seven thousand sheep and three thousand camels, and five hundred yoke of oxen, and five hundred she asses, and a very great household; so that this man was the greatest of all the men of the east. The passage was taken from Job chapter 1, verses 1-3 (King James Version). Cynthia took this account from the bible and produced an exceptional, romantic and captivating story of the untold.

As the wife of Job, every supposed aspect of the family’s life was lived through her eyes. Job and Misses Job met at her birth. From her entrance into the world, he held her close to his heart and his heart and hers become one, beating with unadulterated love. Throughout childhood, their hearts become entwined even more and respect and admiration blossomed and grew. The life of Job and Ix’ises (his wife) was simply just beautiful. They laughed together, they played together and they loved together. Their childhood adventures took them to beautiful pastures, under the panoply of the open skies and on pathways on which their love was shared with animals, family and friends.

Profoundly caring for each other, their love evolved into marital bliss and sheer romance. On the night of their marriage, their love peaked at consummation. Job was so tender as he stroked and massaged her beautiful body. This, I tell you would drive the undesired to envy. She penned the moment as one of such a delight. Here is what she said, "I guided his hands as I became accustomed to his touch, learning the art of lovemaking as we discovered the delights of sharing our bodies with one another. Had I known the magic that awaited, I might have begged him to wed me a decade before. Though I’d heard of women who were torn and bruised after their wedding night, wondering if the emptiness they felt would heal with time, my first night with Job was filled with only tenderness and awakened desire, as he matched his rhythms to those flowing through my own flesh. I became one with him, body and soul, engulfed in his strong arms as we conceived the firstborn of our joyous union." Cynthia could surely teach couples the art of lovemaking, which would have couples enjoying marital bliss every day of their lives.

The book was so easy to read. I was taken into a world of pure love as I read. Through Cynthia’s eyes, I experienced the four types of love as outlined in the bible. These are eros (sensual or romantic love), storge (familial love), philia (brotherly love that unites believers) and agape (God’s love for humankind). What an amazing experience and enjoyable time I spent reading. I was lost in Uz for a few days and could have stayed there if it were not for my realities.

Cynthia is an exceptional writer. I believe she has a wonderfully endowed, imaginative mind. She understands the human existence in the realm of love. Though the experiences of the main character were not all pleasant, the unpleasant phases allow one to see humanness. I liked how she used the end of the story to start the story. This enticed me to stay on its pages. Others, I know will desire to read this book as well.

Can I say that it is a beautiful book? I do believe I can. It is a beautiful book and I would recommend it to everyone who wants to understand what true love is. I found no errors in the book. The editors did an exceptional job of editing. Without reservations, I rate this book 4 stars out of 4 stars.

The author has taken those few verses from the Bible and developed an emotional love story. Thanks for the recommendation! This is one I am interested in reading.

Only the idea of telling the story of job for a different perspective is what bought my interest in this book.
