Review by Joan642 -- Days Passed by Mcentry Dunbar II
Days passed by McEntry Ray Dunbar II is the coming-of-age love story of Brittany and Tony, who were best friends since their childhood. With time, their little friendship grew to love, but fate had other plans for them, as they were separated from each other the summer before high school began.
Through hard work and commitment, Tony was able to make his parents proud. He got a good college scholarship and was able to climb the corporate ladder fast with his girlfriend, Eva, by his side. On the other hand, things were going well for Brittany after she found her beau, Blake. Unfortunately, she lost her mother on her wedding day. She was devastated, and the resentment she had for her father heightened. To worsen it, he left her with the responsibility of running the company without any form of preparation. She slowly became a despicable version of herself, and even Blake was at a loss of what to do. Who will save her from the impending doom she is about to bring upon herself? Will Tony and Brittany ever cross paths again? Will their love story continue?
I loved the opening message the author started with; it was inspiring. This book was written in the third-person narrative. I enjoyed the characters a lot; they were properly developed and relatable. The themes, including love, betrayal, friendship, coming of age, forgiveness, were all strongly felt. This book taught me that you should not be too quick to judge someone because you don’t know what they might have been through.
To be honest, there were a lot of things I did not like about this book. One was the fact that the author's writing style was so simple and detailed, which made the book a bore for me. Also, the author was too straightforward in telling this story; there were no mystery, suspense, or things that could spice up the story a bit. I found a few errors while reading this book, but they were not to the point that it disrupted my reading flow, so it seems this book was professionally edited.
I feel this book would have been better if the author was a little more creative and added a bit of suspense to keep the reader anxious about what happens next. This book deserves a 2 out of 4-star rating. I would have given more if it had a form of uniqueness that could keep me on edge. I recommend this book to young teens and adults. I would like to state that this book contains slight erotic contents, and no form of profane language was used.
