Review by Shatakshi Gauriar -- The Legacy of Job's Wife
Does God give a reason for his action? But, we believe there is always a reason behind God’s motive until then we keep faith in Him and ourselves. This story is about Job and Ix’ises.
Job is one of the finest men that I have even read, his character growth throughout the story by Cynthia J. Koelker is just divine. Job believes in God and admires God’s every decision no matter what. He doesn’t question His existence and believes everything happens for good.
On the other hand, Ix’ises don’t know much about God and is not naturally a believer like Job. She questions the killing of an innocent animal in the name of sanity and is fierce in putting her opinion forward.
Job and Ix’ises are childhood sweethearts and are able to start a perfect family. Everything seems to be going well until one fine day, God takes everything from them, their children, their wealth, their laborers. Ix’ses cannot handle this loss and starts to go down in her dark thoughts as each day passes, Job is trying to understand the motive of God’s action and is immensely horrified at the same time. After some time from all this misfortune, Job suffers from a chronic disease which led his body to decay and each breath is counted. Frustrated and sad Ix’sises shouted to Job,” Curse God and Die”.
Little did she know what was about to come. The Legacy Of Job’s Wife, is truly a masterpiece. Not only it includes a beautiful childhood love story which blooms into adultery but also almighty God’s power. My favorite character is surely Job, his calmness in every situation never ceases to amaze me. Moreover, Job and Ix’seas really compliment each other. Every character in this story has a job to do and somewhere to be which is not much seen in every novel. Truthfully, I never have come across a novel that has absolutely no profanity but this novel just touches that line gracefully, so every age group can read this without any kind of restrictions.
I give this novel a 4 out of 4 stars because there is no reason to give it 3, everything is well developed moreover, the novel is so engaging to read. This novel truly tells the nature of life, the people around us. How in happiness, hundreds of people come around us, help us, celebrate with us, and all those people who once shared your happiness can give you a sore thumb in time of need. Cynthia gives us many great reasons why we should not trust everyone.
Lastly, this novel deals with real-life issues that we have to face someday, that someday we can be at that dead-end, we can be that vulnerable. That doesn’t make us weak but makes us so strong to face this world with a bright smile.
Happy Reading:)
