Review by brookecrites -- Perfect. by D. D. Larsen
Seryna has never been one to veer from the plan: get good grades, be the best at sports, go to college (out of her hometown, obviously), and don’t disappoint her parents. Falling in love with Kieran, an FBI agent who happens to be investigating her family for possibly being involved in distributing a new party drug, GAP? Definitely not the plan. While Seryna tries to help Kieran find who is responsible for GAP, she struggles with her family, her internal self, and her future. In Perfect., D.D. Larsen takes her readers on a journey of love, deception, and danger.
The main thing I liked about this book is that the characters are each unique and experience a character arc in their own way. Seryna insists on being a strong, independent woman, yet she becomes quickly reliant on Kieran. Kieran is a dedicated FBI agent, yet he has a soft spot for Seryna. Her best friends are outgoing and get Seryna out of her comfort zone, which is something she needs as a soon-to-be college student. Each family member and friend who is mentioned in the story is adequately developed and adds value to the plot when details about them are included.
The thing I liked least about the book is that it moved at an extremely quick pace, especially for the events that took place. This was good because the book never felt like it was dragging along; however, it felt unnecessary to move so quickly. There were details of the plot that were harder to buy into because of the quick succession of events. Also, the book is repetitive in some places by using the same expressions numerous times.
The book did not seem professionally edited. There were grammar errors, with missing and incorrect punctuation, as well as spelling errors, with even a character’s name being changed throughout the book. Further, there were a few details of the book that I believe the author forgot to come full circle on. As a result of this, I believe the book would benefit from another round of professional editing.
Due to the quick pace of the book and the multitude of grammatical errors, I have to rate this book 2 out of 4 stars. Nevertheless, this book has a good storyline and I believe that it will be well-received by readers. There are numerous erotic scenes in the book, which I do not believe are suitable for readers under 18. Overall, I enjoyed reading Perfect. by D.D. Larsen, and look forward to reading the next book in the series.
