Days Passed introduces us to two young friends, Brittany and Tony. They became friends when their parents introduced them as toddlers, and their friendship continued through most of their teenage years. When life throws them a major curveball, it changes everything. Tony's father has serious issues to deal with, and this causes Brittany's father to take drastic measures and forbids Brittany to see Tony anymore.
Brittany develops a lot of anger and harsh feelings towards her father, as her feelings for Tony have grown beyond just friendship. She is forced to go on with her life, without Tony being part of it, so she throws herself into her school work and pushes her father out of her life. Tony goes to a different college, where he throws himself into becoming the successful man Brittany may one day long for.
I like this story and look forward to reading the "to be continued" ones to follow. This story is a good read, with a great lesson behind it. It is an easy read, aside from some typos and the need for editing. The bouncing back from one character to another could be made clearer. But the story is touching and very relatable.
I wondered, however, why there weren't more details and depth on their days after high school. Did they even attempt to find each other? If so, what happened that they didn't? If they did not attempt to find each other, why not? It does raise some questions, therefore it lacks depth in that area. These questions often came to mind while reading, thus causing distraction.
There is no profanity or erotica, so this story is suitable for young adults to older adults. There is a wonderful lesson of being misunderstood and unfairly treated in this realistic novel. This is a lesson we would all do well to learn from, especially in days like the ones we are living in now. There is also a strong lesson of "to thy own self be true". If you don't feel comfortable doing something--don't do it; Follow your gut! This book clearly teaches this lesson.
I'm sincerely looking forward to the prelude book that will continue this story. Aside from the few points mentioned above, it's a pleasant read with a great lesson to be learned. I would have given it a higher score had it not been for the numerous typos and the need for more editing. Thus I am giving it a 3 out of 4 stars.
