Zia Lennox is a literary agent in LA, California. One fateful day, she meets Bryce Fink, the newest lawyer at Banks & Filmore. The attraction is instantaneous, but Zia doubts his intentions. He’s just too good to be true. She then receives the manuscript from an up and coming author, Baxter Leopold. Zia is instantly drawn to the book, and soon after, it’s author. She quickly finds herself in love with two completely different men, and discovers that both of them carry a dark secret. But, which of the two men will she choose?

Bryce is the typical sweetheart who dreams of marriage, children, and a happily ever after. Baxter awakens the sexual beast from within Zia. But there is more to him than meets the eye. After signing a career-making publishing contract with Baxter, Zia soon discovers that the murders in his book are eerily similar to multiple murders that occurred in New York. Coincidence? Or is something more sinister happening? Zia and her best friend/coworker, Jazmine set out to discover the truth. Little does she know; Zia may have to die to find out.

Chameleons is a romantic thriller written by author Onyx Gold. The overall plot was well thought out, and gave the reader hindsight into the killer’s mind. The main focus of the book was Zia’s sexual exploits with Baxter, and her undying love for Bryce. The murder mystery aspect of the book was an intertwined plot. The author’s backstory of Baxter and his sinister scheming was skillfully planned and executed; only giving little bits at a time throughout the book.

There are numerous sexually expletive scenes in the story. I highly recommend that only adult readers partake of Chameleons, as a couple of the sexual encounters between Zia and Baxter can be seen to border on rape. The murder scenes in the book are minimally described, if not at all. Anyone with a weak stomach for murder books will not be deterred from this story.

Overall, I would rate Chameleons 3 out of 4 stars. While the overall story was intriguing, there seemed to be lags in the story. One such instance is when Zia and Bryce get in a heated argument, agree to meet to talk, and then the next chapter suddenly picks up into their reunion. The climax and conclusion also seemed to end rather quickly, with very little hanging anticipation in between.
