Review by Idegbeyan -- Days Passed by Mcentry Dunbar II
The book Days passed by McEntry Ray Dunbar II revolves around the lives of two best friends; Tony Graham and Brittany Daniels. Both had gone ahead to fall in love as teenagers. However, an unexpected event had caused tony and his family to move away from town without informing Brittany as she was on vacation with her family. Upon returning and not finding her love, Brittany became closed off to her parents and specially resented her father who wouldn’t let her contact tony. Both went ahead to college, met new people later on and had fallen in love with people who reminded them of the other. Growing up to responsibilities had made Tony relocate back to Town where fate had made them meet and connect at a trying time in Brittany’s life.
The character Tony tells of a young man who became determined to succeed so as not to meet with the same fate as his father. I think leaving town did a lot on Tony’s psych. It made him withdrawn, focusing solely on his studies. He gives out the hardworking, diligent, forgiving and loving vibes. One who had to work his way up the ladder.
On the other hand, Brittany looked like the typical spoilt rich kid who has had all things go her way all through her life and the one thing she couldn’t have which was tony, had caused a rift between she and her parent especially her dad. She also seemed like the independent woman as even with the rift, she had gone ahead to college knowing one day she would inherit her father’s company. I think she is a strong woman who was only trying to prove to her father that she was up to the task of running the company without guidance but didn’t know it would cost her marriage.
Blake, Eva and Jeremy however played perfectly the perfect partner and friend I would say!. They were understanding, supporting and forgiving when they should be. Eva turned out the perfect partner for tony and same for Blake and Brittany.
Now, my best character is Jericho. I kept hoping he would come back later in the book and was glad he did. He looked like he had more to offer. Getting to know he was Jimmy wasn’t a shock to me. I was joyous he was. He played the perfect guardian angel helping Tony through tough times, giving him advice and even the job offer. Oh my! I was ecstatic at that point with the letter.
My best part would be where Blake met Brittany at the coffee shop and forgave her and the scene with the letter. I also loved the fact that both teenagers had gone ahead with their life and had fallen in love with other people even though it took time. I loved that Brittany didn’t jump on tony when they met again and had instead at Tony’s advise gone ahead to mourn her mom and change her approach with work. I enjoyed Tonys’ talk with his father and the mother with Eva. I loved that she told Eva to keep an eye out for tony and even told her what to watch for. However, I did not understand why tony lost his job and got confused the more with Jeremy’s explanation. I also would have wished to know what went on with Brittany's dad; Where he travelled to, how he mourned his wife and hear an apology to his daughter.
I found some errors in the book .
Page 4, paragraph 4 had the author using the word ‘yet’ and ‘still’ together in the same sentence as in: ‘tony disagreed. Yet still Brittany tried to convince him'.
Page 8, paragraph 2 also had the author using 'sleep' instead of 'sleeping'.
‘He’s probably at home sleep right now while you are stressing, Miranda laughed’.
I would go ahead to rate this book 3 out of 4 as it is quite an interesting book, a little bit of suspense as I couldn’t guess if they were going to get back together against their parent wish or even cheat with themselves against their partners. I also loved all the characters and wouldn’t interchange nor remove any out of the plot. I however wouldn’t rate it 4 star as I found lots of errors in the book. It looked like only half of the book was professionally edited. The first 100 pages were filled with errors that could have been avoided if edited
Days passed is definitely a good read for all romance lovers. It has no romantic scene though but one could go ahead to feel the love between the couples and even know that the extramarital affairs would have been the sex scene.
Who would this appeal to? If you love a romance novel without the erotic scene, then read this!. The plot is nice and not at all disappointing. The fact that it has no erotic scene makes it readable for readers of all age and race. I learnt that it’s good to mourn your loss as not mourning ends up rearing its ugly head in another aspect of life. Not to give up on love and move ahead. Africans would find this interesting as it is packed with moral lessons and we all can relate. I just think the book is a wow and I highly recommend.
