Review by jlfwritingservices -- Yesterday by Samyann
Yesterday by Samyann is a fictional love story based in Chicago. This heartwarming story tells an emotional journey of an antique specialist, Amanda Parker, and a Chicago mounted policeman, Mark Callahan. Amanda and Mark meet during an accident for the first time, but both sense they have met before.
The story begins in present times with Amanda saving Mark from a train wreck, when she pulls him to safety. Both are certain they’ve never met, but have a strange feeling they may have met in a former life. Amanda and Mark have a strong bond, however Amanda repeatedly pushes Mark away because of her fear of her past (many who have gotten close to Amanda have died). Mark is persistent in his pursuit of Amanda.
During this time, Amanda buys an antique grandfather clock. Both Mark and Amanda (along with her cat, Oprah) are drawn to the familiarity of this clock. Mark uses his resources as a police officer to do some carbon testing on the clock. He finds it dates back to the Civil War era. Amanda’s spunky godmother, Mary, decides to try a form of hypnosis with Amanda in an attempt to see if Amanda and Mark have met in a previous life. This is where Samyann begins a story within a story. Through these hypnotic flashbacks, Samyann, through Amanda’s character, tells a story of a young girl, Bonnie, during the civil war. Her flashbacks follow Bonnie from early childhood through adulthood. It tells of Bonnie’s life, loss, and love.
I rate this book 3 out of 4 stars. This is a well-written story of love with many well thought out characters. Both the current story of love and the historical romance story are both intriguing and captivating. I truly enjoyed both of the intertwining stories. I gave it a 3-star review because there seemed to be an excessive number of characters in the story because of it being two stories. This made it hard to follow at times. It would take a bit to align the characters with the story at the moment. It would seem as soon as I was mentally comfortable with the characters, it would change time periods again.
I only found a few proofreading errors in this book, but they did not distract from the readability of the book at all. It was definitely professional proofread and edited.
I would recommend Yesterday to adult romance lovers. There is quite a bit of suggested sexual behavior, but no explicitly described sexual scenes.
