Review by TutorGirlCheyenne -- Looking Glass Friends
"I need time away from you," she pleaded. "Don't call. Don't write. I wish it was next year already. Wait for me, my precious looking glass friend, my mirror image, my soul mate."
In this award-winning book Looking Glass Friends by E L Neve: Neil and Ellie have a serendipitous meeting one day in the bakery where Neil works. Ellie gives Neil a copy of Ayn Rand's; Atlas Shrugged to read but doubts he will. To Ellie's surprise, Neil not only reads the book but sends a letter in return. Thus begins a beautiful friendship, but at what cost? Neil is married to Fay, and Ellie to Jake. Neither able to understand the budding friendship that Neil and Ellie have found with one another.
This book reminds me of a provocative dance. When Neil attempts to bring Ellie closer to him she pulls away. If he then retreats, she dances forward and attempts to pull him back in. Neither wanting to hurt their spouses, both unable to prevent it. Their correspondence becomes an obsession that they both need much like an addict needs a drug.
E L Neve wrote this inspiring story of love, heartache, and finding one's self. The writer takes us on an exhilarating tale of soulmates and makes one truly question if there is such a thing as fate. Readers will delight in knowing that this book based on real-life love letters. Theirs is a love of knowledge, philosophy, poetry, and a desire to have someone to share it all with. Nothing is more beautiful than a love that begins as a friendship and grows into more, except one that begins as a love of the mind. This is much more exhilarating than a story based on physical attractions and is much more difficult to write in a way that pulls the reader in until the very end. E L Neve accomplished this brilliantly.
I most loved that while this is a book of extramarital love, the writer doesn't make it seem fallacious or sleazy. What I disliked most was the use of vulgar words that I found added nothing substantive to the story. While some stories are enhanced by them, they seemed forced in this book. Other than that, I absolutely loved this book and immediately read it a second time.
I give this book 4 out of 4 stars as the story flowed perfectly and was flawlessly written. This book contained no errors, thus appearing to be professionally edited. I recommend it for an adult-only audience. Parents should be strongly cautioned that this book contains subjects not suitable for children of any age. Some subjects included within this book include suicidal thoughts, sexual descriptions, divorce, extramarital love, vulgar words, and attempted rape.
