Packed with imagery, Lost and Love: Thailand (Book One of the Lost and Love Series) by Stella Knights tells the story of a young couple that feels “stuck in a rut” with their work and marriage. Savannah feels that her husband, Johnny, is always putting her second to his work and his family. Savannah also feels that her work is not fulfilling and dreams of going away on a holiday. When a poster featuring Thailand is posted in Savannah’s workplace she quickly persuades Johnny to take a holiday there with her. Plans are made and Savannah and Johnny find themselves sitting on a tropical beach in Thailand. However, their perfect vacation doesn’t go as planned; a wild idea gets out of hand and soon Johnny and Savannah find themselves at odds with each other and their relationship disintegrating.

My favorite aspect of Lost and Love was the relatability of Savannah and her thoughts and feelings regarding work, family, and her relationship with Johnny. I laughed out loud when reading Savannah’s interactions with her mother-in-law; I think most women would feel and react similarly to Savannah’s reaction to her mother-in-law’s meddling and opinions. The monotony in Savannah’s work is also relatable. I know that I can relate to feeling bored in my day to day operations, and like Savannah, dream of travelling to an exotic tropical destination. In fact, I thought the imagery used to describe Thailand was quite appealing and I looked forward to reading about the beautiful beaches that Savannah and Johnny were enjoying.

As I stated earlier, this novel is packed with imagery but not all of the imagery was tasteful. My least liked aspect of this novel was all the explicit sex scenes. They were quite prolonged and frequent. I don’t mind some steamy scenes but I felt like every other page was describing an erotic sexual exploit. This was definitely a deterrent when reading the novel; at one point, I even considered stopping the novel because I was completely fed up with a particularly long and meticulously detailed sexual encounter. Not only did the majority of the book seem as if it were a never-ending sex scene, the ending leaves the reader grasping for answers about what happens next. While I can see how readers who enjoyed this novel will be salivating to get their hands on the sequel, I feel as if I were robbed of a satisfactory conclusion to a tedious novel and have thrown up my hands in defeat and have no intention of reading the sequel.

I would give this novel a 2 out of 4 stars. I did enjoy a lot of the novel but felt like the excessive sex detracted from what could have been a better story. I didn’t notice any grammatical or typographical errors but there was a great deal of cursing throughout the novel. Because of these points, I would recommend that only very mature readers that enjoy risqué romance novels tackle this book. I imagine this book will appeal to more women readers than men, however, any one who enjoys plenty of erotic scenes will likely appreciate this book more than I did.
