Who Told You That You Were Naked? A Refreshing Reexamination of the Garden of Eden by William E. Combs analyzes the bible and how sin has typically been perceived by Christians. Reverend Combs attempts to change this perception of sin by making the argument that sin is not just a list of bad things that one must repent for. He quotes passages from the bible which clearly support his new and unique view of sin. Reverend Combs also takes you back to Adam, Eve and the Garden of Eden to reexamine how sin originally came into this world.

Within each chapter, Reverend Combs uses personal testimonies to serve as examples of some of the points he is trying to make, as well as miracles he has witnessed throughout his journey of faith. He states that one must surrender completely to Jesus Christ, and that this is the only true way to combat sin. Rather than sin being this list of bad things that one must abstain from doing, he portrays it as “an enemy crouching at the door”.

I really enjoyed the way Reverend Combs made me rethink this concept of sin. I have never been one to go to church often, so I don’t know the bible very well, but the book was still very easy to follow along. He clearly makes his points and uses many examples from the Book of Genesis as well as other parts of scripture to portray these points in the bible. I also liked his reexamination of the creation of the Garden of Eden and how sin was introduced to Adam and Eve. It was very descriptive which allowed me to really visualize everything as I was reading. The review questions at the end of each chapter were a nice addition as they helped to recap what was covered and make you think about the points which were made.

The audience that I believe would most enjoy Who Told You That You Were Naked? are people who have studied the bible and are open to rethinking major aspects of it, as well as those who want to delve deeper into studying the bible. I don’t think you have to necessarily know the bible well to be able to read this book; I have only read small portions of it and I still found it very interesting. It made me want to now go and read the bible to further understand the many examples Combs used from scripture. Because of this, I believe people who have not read or studied the bible will still enjoy reading this book.

This book was very well written and professionally edited. I truly enjoyed reading it and could not think of anything I didn’t like about it. For this reason, as well as the others I have mentioned, I am giving it 4 out of 4 stars. I highly recommend you add this to your list of must-read books.

Very nice but I think I'll pass on this right now. I'm not feeling the discussion of Eden and sin. Thanks for the review!

I strongly agree with you. Moreover, the author did a very good job with the explanation.
