A catastrophic and dreadful disease of our generation is autism. This disease has been described as an epidemic and the terrorism our time. It is often regarded as genocide in disguise. It can destroy civilization if not controlled. One thing that makes this disease so frightful is the drugs administered to the patients. Research shows that psychiatric drugs administered to autism patient are neurotoxins. Such drugs can cause emotional blunting. Also, they affect the brain. Thus, the need to avoid them.

In her book The Mom and her Autistic Daughter, Regine Dubono has detailed the day-to-day life of an autistic young woman. This is a non-fiction book published in 2018. This is a true story about a mother who assists her autistic daughter live a normal life. She decides to take care of her daughter through research and proven strategies. This led her to discover that after thirty years of psychiatric treatment, her daughter still displays her original symptoms. The situation worsened when her drugs are reduced. After reading manuals from Thomas Zachs and Peter Breggin, she learns about the design of psychiatric drugs as instruments to get rid of an undesirable population. Peter Breggin traces a step-by-step procedure to identify the negative emotions of autistic patients and replaces them with life-affirming attitudes and values. Peter has stated that autistic patients must be given experiences that make them happy instead of dangerous drugs.

This book is enlightenment to anyone who battles with autism. Some medical concepts relating to autism have been explained. Readers will find answers to questions relating to autism. Reasons why autistic patients who thrive on drugs remain in that state for the rest of their life have been explained. The numerous researches made relating to autism have provided a substitute for dealing with autistic patients instead of administering dangerous drugs. The effects of some drugs such as monosodium glutamate on autistic patients have been explained. It is easy to navigate through the book because of a well-constructed table of contents. The use of important dates has made it easy to follow the story. Visible fonts sizes have enhanced the quality of the book as reading is made easier without straining the eyes. Individuals who have not experienced autism may disregard the usefulness of this book.

However, the contents on page seventeen could not display on my android tablet. It is necessary to test the book with all devices before publishing. I could not read with the normal pace because some words and expressions are technical and medically inclined. An average reader may encounter some difficulty reading this book. It is necessary to use words and expressions that are within the comprehension of an average reader. Such words must be clearly explained if they cannot be replaced with simple ones. Also, some words have been repeated on a few pages whilst some sentences are over space. It is necessary to ensure that such books are well edited before publishing.

I hope the author will fix the above limitations as they have significantly undermined the quality of the book. I will be happy to write a second review for the next edition of this book after the limitations above have been fixed. Had it not been the limitations above, I would have rated this book perfectly. Unfortunately, I have to remove one star. I, therefore, rate The Mom and her Autistic Daughter by Regine Dubono 3 out of 4 stars.

I have a nephew that is autistic, and I don't agree with this at all. My nephew is the sweetest kid you'll ever make. Perhaps there are good points in the book, after all I do believe in alternative treatments. But I have to say I'm pretty turned off at the moment. Thanks.

I've read many articles on Autism and I don't like that the author described it as an epidemic and terrorism; that's farfetched. However, the book looks like it contains some valid points. Nice review.
Feeling upset sometimes may be unavoidable, but acting distressed is always optional.
