3 out of 4 stars

I just read the book Who Told You That You Were Naked? A Refreshing Reexamination of the Garden of Eden by William E. Combs. I rate this book a 3 out of 4 stars. I would actually have given it another .5 points if possible for providing citations of resources used so that the reader can decide for themselves whether or not they agree with the author’s interpretation. I gave the book 3 stars for being insightful and thought-provoking as well as consistently providing correct biblical quotations along with chapter and verse sources.
The book starts with Adam in the Garden of Eden. While being factual, the author includes some imagination to make this a story the reader can really identify with and understand. Adam’s relationship with the animals is shown first, and then Adam’s relationship with God is described. Although Mr. Combs takes some liberties to make the reader smile and think the author is probably right, Mr. Combs also remains true to biblical accuracy. While that accuracy is the most important thing to me in a book about the beginning of creation, the added fictional details are a delight to read since I can almost see these things happening in my mind.
The book continues to examine The Bible through both the Old Testament and New Testament while comparing the various stories and verses with the original verses from the story of Adam and Eve. The book thoroughly explains the word of God or the writer’s interpretation of the word of God at least. I can honestly say that I both agreed and disagreed with some of the interpretations in this book. That is why I gave the book 3 stars.
While I was not unable to overcome some of my objections to the writer’s interpretations, I did find that I was able to open my mind and explore new possibilities. Mr. Combs was able to convince me that some of his interpretations are or could be correct. In fact, reading this book was an opportunity to examine and deepen my own understanding of The Bible.
Since much of the content of this book included passages about faith, I was also able to open my heart and deepen my faith. That is why I was able to enjoy this book so much and give it 3 stars. Not only would I recommend that people read this book, I think that I will read this book again and again. I think it is one of those books that will help me discover something new each time I read it.
