What is the biggest adventure that you have been on? In The Altitude Journals by David J. Mauro you have the chance to experience what is like to be a professional climber. David’s life took a different direction when he got a divorce. Dealing with the loss of a brother, not being with your children any more and feeling like your life is slipping away from your hands can take a toll on your mental health. In this book David shared his experienced with the seven summits of the world. Seven mountains in seven different continents. It is a journey about a man not only conquering his fears but also conquering his life.

Through the book you can appreciate David’s experiences and how different each and every summit was for him. Each summit with a different life lesson that help David get back on his feet. Will he find love again? Will he be able to climb all the summits? What is next in David’s life? This book was simply exquisite.

It contains information about what should you be doing when going climbing, it talks about the training that a person has to go through, the importance of having a guide. This book contains not only amazing experiences but also medical terms and explanations about what can happen to you when you climb a summit. The book also contains a lot of topics that are crucial. From mental health all the way to family.

The book is not only about the summit but also about relationships, how to build them, how to maintain them. Family and friends is a huge topic on this book. For this reason, it is not only about the challenges that a climber has to overcome but also about what a man is doing in his life in order to keep moving. David’s life made me feel alive. It made me realize that there is a huge world out there and it is never too late to go ahead and explore it.

I’m giving this book a 3 out of 4 stars just because the beginning of the book was a little bit too slow for me. The way in which is divided at the beginning didn’t make sense to me, it changed topics very abruptly and there was a weird flow through it. However, as the story advanced the flow of the book was perfect. The book kept me engaged and entertained; it even made me laughed through it. Overall, I would totally recommend this book.
