The creation of man, the beginning of life as we know it today and the events in history that have led us to such a time as this are still a mystery to many. William Combs, in his book, "Who told you that you were naked?" revisits one of the most famous accounts of how man came to be. Considered by many as one of the greatest books to have been written by men and inspired by the Holy Spirit, the Holy Bible starts with the creation of the earth which has as it's crown the creation of Adam and Eve, the first man and woman believed to have walked the earth.
The author attempts to reexamine the events through which sin and death entered the world. William Combs takes time to examine critically the events in the garden of Eden, how man came to eat the forbidden fruit which eventually ked to his barsnishment from God's presence, a privilege he had enjoyed from the beginning of time as we know it. He then continues to study the subject of faith not in self but rather faith in Christ Jesus as the solution to redeeming man from his fallen state to the once blossoming relationship with God. As the crown jewel of God's creation, man is positioned to dominate the world and cause establishment of God's Kingdom on the earth. The coming of Jesus Christ presents this opportunity to all of humanity once again therefore clothing us with his righteousness.
The author's reenactment of the events in the Bible gives an opportunity to many, Christian or not to better identify with the person portrayed in the Bible. This for me is one of the things I like most about the book. As I read through the book, I was able to put myself in the shoes of the first man and woman believed to have walked the earth and in a way have a glimpse into the events that actually occurred. The study questions at the end of each chapter allowed me to think further upon the reflections made by the author. I would therefore give the book a 4 out of 4 rating as it performs the intended task exquisitely.
As the title suggests, reading the book gave me a chance to look at the life of Adam and Eve examining the series of actions that led man to die spiritually and be separated from God. Instead of leaving us in this state of self awareness, God created an opportunity for us to live free from sin and death and live a life strengthened by Christ and his finished works on the cross as opposed to having hope in our state of weakness.
As the author of the book of Romans suggests in twelfth chapter, transformation is a result of our minds being renewed. Living according to the law of the Spirit of life and walking in the the light should be the desire of every Christian. I would therefore recommend this book be read by anyone that seeks some understanding of the focus of the Gospel. Studying the book of Genesis, the first book of the Bible, is necessary to one who seeks to have knowledge. As a famous saying goes, knowledge is power. He who seeks knowledge therefore should be encouraged to carry out this study to empower self.
