The author introduces this spiritual book by taking the reader through his first encounter with the light in his home in Alaska when he was five years old. This encounter that changed his perception of the world as he began to look at the world differently. In his mind, he found himself standing in the garden of Eden and heard a voice saying, "Who told you that you were naked?" Through this revelation the writer's understanding of sin, faith and salvation was brought much deeper than before. He then invites the reader to the mission of understanding how sin and death entered the world as he hopes the reader will rediscover the glorious Light and Life, like he did, that is abundant to them who believe.
In chapter one, the writers informs the reader about the origin of sin and its consequences. It is through our first parents, Adam and Eve, that sin entered the world. After being placed in the garden of Eden, Adam and Eve were provided with everything they could need, given dominion over other animals not forgeting a good relationship with God. God told them to eat the fruits from all the trees in the garden apart from the fruits from one tree. Failure to obey, they shall surely die. Serpent deceived them and they ended up eating the fruits from the forbidden tree. Because they disobeyed God, they had to die. Death, according to the author, did not just mean a cessation of life. It was rather viewed as separation or alienation . This brings various forms of death; physical death, spiritual death and relational death.
The writer also explains how Adam and Eve's action adversely impacted Cain and Abel and subsequently enslaved us all. It is only Jesus who did not experience relational or spiritual death. Therefore, he became the only son of Adam who lived a life free from the law of sin and death. He continued to say that, unlike Jesus, we are all slaves of sin and death. The only way we can liberate ourselves from the law of sin and death is by accepting Jesus Christ in our lives. If we accept Him in our lives, we will walk in light because he is the light and all our sins and unrighteousness shall be cleansed away. This is done by being born again.
In my view, the writer's main reason for writing this spiritual book was for evangelization which he successfully did. In order to make the book understandable and interesting, the author has used various techniques; he has used both personal testimonies and other people's testimonies. He tells the reader how he received salvation and started to walk with Jesus as his saviour. He also gives us testimony on how Satan has been disturbing him and his wife, Miriam. To add on, the author give testimonies of how some people were healed to show that when one is walking in the light everything is possible.
Secondly, the writer has made his book easy to understand by providing questions after every topic. This motivates the reader to read more on the topic or even several readers can discuss the questions. The author has tried to deeply explain the topic by looking at various books in the bible that have the topics he is writing. This made me enjoy reading the book as the discussion moved from the new testament to the old testament. Therefore, I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars
This book can be read by any person who enjoys reading spiritual books or nonfictions. For children, this book is not a good match as it revolves around so many books in the Bible and may be a little confusing or hard to understand.
