Health tips, Myths, and Tricks: Book Review

Dr. Tavel’s Health tips, Myths, and Tricks is an excellent source of non-fictional information for individuals who are concerned about their health. Also, the book should be recommended to the general population because it covers a wide array of topics about health. The current world is faced with a health crisis because of poor nutrition and living habits. In addition, many people are misinformed about quality health practices that promote quality living. Many individuals and companies have continued to spread false information about health tips for the purpose of making money. Consequently, Dr. Morton E. Tavel has written the book to debunk false information about health. Particularly, Dr. Tavel is concerned about ‘consumerism’ and its progression in the health, fitness, and nutrition industry.

Dr. Tavel divides the book into three sections: Tips, Myths, and Tricks. The first section highlights the secrets to good health that individuals can integrate into their daily life. I appreciate that Dr. Tavel started the first section of the book by discussing the issue of obesity in the community. According to Tavel (2015), about 70% of the population in the United States is obese: obesity is, consequently, a national problem that needs to be addressed. Tavel’s arguments can be supported by Murphy (2012) in his book Obesity, which asserts that the majority of the U.S population is overweight. Therefore, the first section of the book will be invaluable to the majority of the U.S population.

The second section of the book discusses the myths about health, nutrition and, fitness. I appreciate that Dr. Tavel highlights the importance of the second part because it can make an individual to forego the health tips highlighted in the first section. The second section of the book is an excellent source for fighting consumerism, which makes people to purchase and consume products that have no significant effect on health, but instead continue to deteriorate it. In addition, the third section (Tricks) also attacks consumerism by providing information that would help people to avoid useless products and information. However, I believe that Dr. Tavel should have sourced for examples on how popular myths have contributed to health deterioration.

I believe that Dr. Tavel’s book is a rich source of information for health practitioners and the general public. The author uses information from reputable sources and personal knowledge to compile the book. In addition, the author lists all the references used to gather information. Therefore, readers can check the sources to confirm the assertions made in the text by Dr. Tavel. Also, other writers and researchers can use the book as a point of reference because it has a rich scientific background.

I rate the book 4 out of 4 stars because of the exemplary work that Dr. Tavel has done to compile the book. The book is organized in an orderly manner that would help a reader navigate through the text. Also, the author uses quality grammar, which indicates that the text was edited before publication. Therefore, I believe that the book should be recommended to the general public because health is important regardless of age or gender.
