I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars.

Who Told You That You Were Naked? is a well-written, refreshing review of the book of Genesis, just as described. It should be noted that I am a Christian myself, making the book a refreshing review for me. However, the book is written in an accessible manner where anyone should be able to read it and grow from the message it presents, regardless of religious affiliation or beliefs. The book is written for a Christian audience, rather than with an objective to convert readers to Christianity.

Author William E. Combs' introduction is a personal look into his own life that really helps the reader connect in an intimate manner with the author. Any hesitation I had when I picked out this book immediately dissipated after reading the introduction. The author presents himself in a humorous light, and his knowledge and passion for his religion really shines through.

He begins the story with Adam's existence in the Garden of Eden, and he follows a fictional account of Adam's experiences based on the biblical book of Genesis. The story told with Adam as the main character, and later Eve as well, is a riveting account that is believable. In fact, the author makes the reader feel as if he or she is right there watching Adam interact with both God and the Garden of Eden itself.

Additionally, each chapter of the story ends with "study questions for discussion," making it crystal clear that the author wishes for his book to be shared and discussed. I actually took some extra time on this review to discuss some of the questions with a few of my more religious-minded friends (who have not read the book) to confirm that I not only gained a new perspective after reading this book, but that the study questions were effective in fostering critical thinking. The questions were very helpful among my friend group in starting discussions and approaching religious topics from new points of view.

Religion is a topic that most people don't want to approach. However, the author of this book presented a well-informed religious perspective based in the book of Genesis that all Christians could benefit from reading. Although I did not agree with all of the points of view and "advice" that the author provided, I felt no shame in disagreeing with him or being challenged in my own beliefs/approaches to the Bible. This book would be ideal for a biblical study group interested in fostering critical thinking and creative outlets for discussion.
