Review of Discovering Your Passion
I've been on a self-improvement journey this year, and when I saw this book I knew I had to read it! I'm very pleased to have made this decision! It almost felt like the author, Shadan, was speaking directly to me and answering questions I didn't know I had. She can reach deeper than just finding your passion. There is a path of healing you find yourself in while reading and answering her questions.
Before you start your path, she gives you life rules that you may not have heard or considered before. I suggest going back and rereading these after you finish the book because I did and found even more meaning to them afterward. She ends each chapter with a little questionnaire, kind of like a workbook. She emphasizes not rushing into answering if you aren't ready when you first read them and to come back when you are ready. She does a great job of not overwhelming you in each chapter so you can process, think through your answers, and not rush into overwhelming yourself. She expresses moving at your speed.
She adds a few quotes and what seem to be personal poems that help to inspire, reaffirm, and reword things to help understand. Some of what I read in her book I have heard over and over again in my life but the way she words them sticks out and means something more than they did before. She uses examples from people in her life and from her own experiences that help inspire you. The personal stories helped solidify that I am not alone in my feelings of being lost or useless.
I have not found my passion yet, but I now have the knowledge and steps to take to find my passion. Shadan has helped me realize how much I was holding myself back and now I feel free to explore and learn about myself. She does point out some hard truths that might be hard to deal with at first, so don't get discouraged. Take your time and remind yourself that you are worth it. She knows that you are and she will reaffirm your hopes.
She does mention relying on the universe and letting it guide you. While I do agree with this, I will choose to rely on God to guide me and help me find the gifts he has given me. This book is not for nor against any beliefs and I feel that helps make it more inviting for everyone out there. I don't want to spoil any of her steps but know that you will enjoy learning not just how to find your passion but about your true self. I rate this book 4 out of 5 for some typos, I recommend even those who know their passions and might feel stumped to read this!
