Health Tips, Myths, and Tricks lives up to its title. This book is composed of many health tips to keep you healthy, myths about certain medical fads and popular inaccurate notions about the medical field, and tricks to assist an individual in determining whether certain “cures” are indeed legitimate. The novel itself is divided into three sections in order to address a multitude of topics and issues that fall into these categories. Each section is then divided into short chapters that do not require an individual to have any prior knowledge of what is contained in the chapter, nor the chapters that precede it.

The health tips portion of the book occupies the majority of the book and gives helpful information on a variety of topics from coffee to how to lose weight, as well as a multitude of other topics. Travel does an impressive job of explaining certain terms in a way that nearly everyone can read and does not need a medical degree to understand.

The myths portion of the book occupies a number of chapters after the previous health tips section. This section provides valuable information on topics in which incorrect information has permeated throughout society and remediates this effect by setting the record straight. Such topics include vaccines and bottled water.

The final section of Health Tips, Myths, and Tricks is composed of the tricks portion of the book. Similar to the myths portion of the book, this section provides information on how to avoid common medical fads that ultimately are untrue or can even be harmful. Travel provides information on how one can avoid medical con-men and provides alternatives to alleviate the symptoms these products claim to cure.

I would rate this book 2 out of 4 stars. While I cannot accurately state whether the information presented is medically sound as I do not have a degree in medicine, the information appears to be scientifically sound. Travel frequently references scientific studies in order to provide credibility to his arguments and advice. Likewise, his accomplishments as a physician provides him with authority on the issues he presents and the information he presents tends to fall in line with the common doctrines of many doctors today. This made for a rather enlightening read. This book would likely interest anyone who wants to increase their general medical knowledge.

My biggest grievance with this book was its structure. Because the health tips portion of the novel took up so much space and seemed to cover topics that were related to one another more so than the other two sections, it seemed that this section dragged. Likewise, I believe the myths and tricks section likely could have been combined into one section due to the overlap of their purpose in the book. Both asserted various falsehoods of certain medical fads and notions. Similarly, the book had many formatting and grammatical errors that were slightly distracting.
