Review of Entrepreneurship: 5 Best Practices for Stay-At-Home-Moms who want to start an Online Business
Entrepreneurship: 5 Best Practices for Stay-at-Home Moms is a book I wanted to like. The catchy, to-the-point title promised to be straightforward and helpful with five easy steps. The topic of women in business is one that personally interests me. I hoped to glean important and inspiring information in what seemed like a clear and simple delivery. However, upon reading Patricia Jennings’ book, I was left with very little new knowledge and frustrated by the maze it took me through to get to the end.
While the book contained no spelling errors, the entire document is difficult to read, not because it uses complicated terms or words, but because very few paragraphs in the book flow and many sentences don't make sense. The writing jumped from past to present tense for no reason. Almost every page is filled with awkward word salads of regurgitated information.
Getting through the book was hard enough, but even when I reached the end, I was still wondering what the five best practices were. While the book offered a game plan on how to create an online business, it only skimmed the actual process of following the examples provided. For example, while the author suggests creating a business plan, the book does not provide an example of what a business plan looks like.
Still, Entrepreneurship: 5 Best Practices for Stay-at-Home Moms is not a total disappointment. There were a few helpful takeaways, such as, the basic steps to follow when starting a business. More importantly, the book refers the reader to several mom-oriented associations, software programs, apps and websites that might help facilitate the opening and operating of an online business. In addition, should the reader be searching for motivation, the book also provides information on several female entrepreneurs who succeeded in an online business.
I would rate this book 2/5 stars because it is very awkward to read. For example, one of the titles, "Describe What You Would be Doing," is written in conditional tense instead of future tense. In addition, the book does not satisfy the promise of its title. There are many brief points touched on, such as doing research on your competitors and creating a work schedule, but the reader is left wondering which five main practices are the ones the author recommends.
