Review of The Mindset
The Mindset by Ace Bowers is a moving memoir that took me on the author's journey of overcoming obstacles. In this book, Ace describes growing up in a rough environment, with financial hardships, constant conflicts, and personal hardships. The book begins by highlighting Ace's tough upbringing and shows the challenging moments that greatly impacted who he is today. His resilience and positive outlook on life were prevalent in his story. He found himself at rock bottom after high school, feeling hopeless and in debt. However, crucial moments such as meeting his wife Yuka and the birth of their child infused a motivation that turned his life around.
I found Ace's determination to be the most impressive thing about his journey. He juggled a range of jobs and made wise decisions to develop himself. Ace makes a special point about the frame of mind all through the book by showing how changing how he perceived himself and life helped him become successful. Another heart-touching part of the book is about Ace’s complicated family life. Instead of holding grudges, he seeks to understand their sufferings, and in doing so, brings out humanity in them even when they have erred in most cases. The book’s narrative is catchy and glides effortlessly, and reading it is a joyride. The author combined tough themes with humor and added to it pearls of wisdom that touched me in many ways. This book inspired me to be aware and seize my life by emphasizing that one must make a change in him/herself first.
I found some parts of this book to be repetitive, especially when the author was reflecting on his childhood experiences, though it didn't overshadow the book's powerful message. I would rate The Mindset by Ace Bowers 5 out of 5 stars for its authentic, well-edited and inspiring storyline. I recommend this book to those seeking motivation and guidance on their paths to success.
