Why not look at the story that took place in the garden in a different light? That is what Mr. William E. Combs leads us to do in his book, WHO-TOLD-YOU-THAT-YOU-WERE NAKED. The method he uses to introduce us to Adam is entertaining, and at the same, helps identify with Adam’s needs and his humanity. No one gets left in the garden. Though New Testament passages the connection is made that complete the story from Genesis to today’s relationship to God through the cross.
There is no question that it is a book that believes in the new birth. The work of Jesus in salvation and our spiritual warfare is related through Scriptures and personal testimony of Mr. Combs. The rest promised to God’s chosen people back then is still available to believers today. Pursuit of the spiritual truth in our lives is encouraged through the retelling of the story in the garden of Eden.
The topic evolves around the fall of man. It is about time someone lead us to meditate on our own perceptions that create attitudes toward the motives of others. Physical, rational and spiritual death are profound in Scripture and clear in Combs explanations. The vocabulary might be beyond what many of us use in normal conversation, nevertheless it is easily understood in the context of the surrounding sentences.
The personal illustrations of Combs family and friends are relative and entertaining. They bring home a simplicity of understanding Old Testament teachings to a point many of us will gain a greater depth of knowledge. There is a process used that leads to the relationship of faith and the free will humanity has been given to make your choice to embrace God as creator and Father. The quantity or the quality of personal faith is in relationship to accepting or rejecting biblical truths is helpful, because most of us occasionally question our own faith. There are illustrations that lead to the answer to such questions.
I rated this book 4 out of 4 stars. It was certainly a well edited book. No obvious errors of grammar or spelling distracted my attention from the topic. Each chapter could stand alone or be used as a reference for its contents. It was an entertaining book that taught biblical truths. It would be a good read for anyone on a journey of faith. My forty years of experience as a Sunday school teacher and speaker confirmed and applauded Mr. Combs writing.
