I thought this book was quite interesting. I wasn't exactly sure what to expect going in to first read it as I'm not much of a big fan when it comes to Nonfiction, but it was an amusing read packed with a ton of different info on stuff I've been meaning to look up nonetheless. There are quite a few chapters so something is bound to catch your interest! Really. There are over sixty chapters I think. And some of the titles that summarize the chapters are quite eye-catching.

I applaud that this book tackled on the myth aspect of a handful of different topics as well, some I was familiar with and some not so much. This helped hold my attention for some topics I wasn't too keen on reading much about. I'm a sucker for anything revolving around myths and proving myths right and/or wrong. It's like the healthy book version of myth busters.

The book does a great job of tackling each subject in the chapters more than I anticipated. It usually gives some background information about the topic first and the author then provides some kind of study to back up his findings and point in a way that is different than other books I've seen that try to do the same. What I mean is, the author really goes into detail about the subject and gives different concrete details to support the idea of the chapter and provides even better-supporting evidence. I found the AIDS TO LOSING WEIGHT chapter interesting in the sense that some of the information in this chapter I knew of/was familiar with and then some not so much. Basically, the author just talks about how the population is obese and overweight and how people have gotten to that point. Like how too many sugary drinks is a factor and how most adults live closer to fast food places which also provides a big temptation that adds to the weight gaining. In the chapter, the author provides plenty of studies and numbers that show the growing weight of adults in America and the factors that have led them there. The author even goes as far as giving a conclusion for the subjects and for some sections like the weight section, it's a warning that sums up the point of the entire chapter: diet pills and weight loss supplements do not work and you don't need them. There are other, healthier ways to go about weight loss and there are tips to do so in a less damaging way than pills.

There were a few topics I wasn't as familiar with like the snake oil chapter and the info provided on them was refreshing to read about and see the myths associated with the topics and how those were tackles. Especially since some seem so out there to me. The chapter that talks about different remedies and vitamins for the Cold would have been so helpful had I had the book this past weekend. It was cool to see how people associated different things to help a common cold and how half of that stuff isn't actually proven to help as listed in the chapter, I know I'm guilty of trying literally anything and everything to cure my colds. Some of the tips listed are now on my to try list to see how they work for me personally.

All in all, I liked this book. There were a lot of chapters listed like I said. And each one was more interesting than the last. The ones at the end of the book seemed like ones I wasn't as aware of. But that could just be me. There were some good myth busters in here and some good tips to write down for future use and emergencies should you need them. I would recommend this book to others who preferred health and wellness books. It's definitely something I could see a lot of older and middle age people coming into a bookstore and asking for since they usually ask for stuff about like alternative healing and tips on health and general wellness. As a bookseller, I've seen a lot of other books on the shelf at the store and I definitely think this is pretty up there with useful information provided for the reader. This is something I would give my grandma to keep lying around her house since she likes information on different health topics and she would probably find some of the myths listed here familiar and some of the tricks useful.

I rate this 3 out of 4 stars
