Everyone should aspire to have the essential skill of effective communication. In addition to teaching people how to talk to each other, Veronica Hislop's A State of P.L.A.Y.S. has expanded this skill to include handling conflict resolution, developing interpersonal skills, handling people who constantly try to interrupt or take over conversations, and listening to understand instead of wanting to answer or pose questions. This book explains various concepts that, when put into practice, help people listen, comprehend, and interpret the attitudes of others when they are communicating. A State of P.L.A.Y.S. ought to be on every reader's bookshelf.

Veronica Hislop portrays conversation in her book as a scientific endeavor with testable and verifiable methods. The in-depth meaning of A State of P.L.A.Y.S. was described and transmitted through the use of real-life examples, explanations, advice, and diagrams that created a seamless communication in which emotions are appropriately controlled, time and place are taken into consideration, and body language is well studied. This book highlights that while we cannot control the ideas or words of others, how we react to their statements greatly influences the outcome of a P.LA.Y.S. discussion.

I enjoy the quotes at the beginning of each chapter. These quotes make me drool with anticipation. I've never read a comprehensive piece on communication before now. Veronica Hislop did an excellent job, I must say. This book is a treasure trove of knowledge gleaned from years of coaching, education, construction, and personal growth.

There is nothing I find uninteresting in this book; I enjoyed every bit of it. I rate this book a 5 out of 5 stars, as I didn't notice any errors in it. Reading A State of P.L.A.Y.S. is an eye opener, l also learned some terms that were unfamiliar to me, namely; "pink elephant," "Pareto principle," and "emotional freedom technique." I recommend this book to writers, human resource professionals, and anybody else looking for a cutting edge in conflict resolution.
