"Odyssey of High Hopes: A Memoir of Adversity and Triumph" by Cyrus A. Ansary is a heartwarming and captivating account of the author's journey and that of his family from a life of survival and struggle to enormous success and achievements. Cyrus's birth was not planned or rather expected since his mother was suffering from health conditions, including abdominal separation, and had prayed for no more children. He was taken care of by successive maids and caregivers because his mother did not rejoice in his birth and had no desire to cuddle him as her baby.

Being the youngest of the Ansarys, he never regrated his position in the family hierarchy and worked extra smart towards his own goals and desire to one day be a boss rather than working for people like how his father worked for people or organizations. Driven by the desire to go to America, he never let go of opportunities that could take him there. The author learned English, and when he came across information about the New York Herald-Tribune that was planning to convene a forum of high school students and hold contests after which winners were to be invited to the U.S. for a 3-month tour and participate in public debates on global affairs, he grabbed the opportunity and contested, for which he emerged the winner. Being his dream come true, he embraced it, and his stay in the US for a short time ignited the desire to live there and go to school there. Did it come through? How did Cyrus manage through the challenges he faced? Did he prevail over them? Read more to uncover the truth.

I enjoyed the heartfelt lessons conveyed by this story. I liked the author's confidence, resilience, and perseverance throughout his life that brought about his lifetime success achievements. He never sat back and felt pity for his poverty situation but rather rose and seized each opportunity he was convinced he could do. I love how he never discriminated against any work and was willing to do even janitorial work. His life story was an encouraging and motivating one to me. I liked how the author captured the reader's attention throughout this story; the writing style is worth noting; the vivid description and the various pictures and images used enhanced the reader's understanding. The themes also resonated well with the readers.

I found nothing to dislike about this book; the book was well-edited, and I found no errors in the book. The account of events was well put; I felt as if I was part of this great journey, and that was commendable. The book was of great educational value. I learned a lot that I'm sure will help me throughout my life. Its ability to evoke readers' emotions adds to its depth. I give this book a perfect rating of 5 out of 5 stars because of the reasons I stated above and because I found nothing that warranted any star deduction.

I highly recommend this book to adults, especially readers who have given up on achieving their dreams and goals. It will boost and motivate them that challenges are meant to make them strong.
