The Pursuit of Happiness by Paul Lucas Scott is nonfiction that explores the art and science of happiness and provides practical steps to aid you on your journey to personal happiness.

"It is essential to recognize that there is no universal definition of happiness, as what brings joy and fulfillment to one person may not work for another."

Happiness can be regarded as a subjective concept, as there is no one sure way to get or define it. Happiness is essentially personal and dependent on no one else but you; it is in understanding this foundational concept that our pursuit of happiness can begin in earnest. Happiness is very unlikely to be dependent on a single thing or instance; instead, it is mostly a mix of various factors such as personal connection/relationships, a sense of purpose, self-actualization and development, and so many more.

The book was an enlightening read; I was exposed to new ideas and ways of thinking. Even familiar concepts were better explained for increased understanding. It was written with in-depth research covering all necessary aspects and practical ways, as well as doable exercises at the end of each chapter to help incorporate each lesson into your daily life.

Personally, I would give it 4 out of 5 stars, mainly because while it was enlightening, it wasn't engaging enough. For a topic like this, I expected a few more personal anecdotes than were provided, which affected my overall enjoyment of the book.

I would recommend this book to anyone who is intentional about their happiness and overall well-being. I'm very certain you'll find a lot of helpful information to properly aid you on your journey to finding happiness. If, however, you do not enjoy books that reference research or refer to scientific data or facts, you may likely not find this book enjoyable.
