Are you a cat or dog lover? Do you constantly have to take your pets to the vet for checkups? If you are, then Raw Meaty Bones, written by Dr Tom Lonsdale, may just have the solution that you may be looking for. Dr Tom Lonsdale is a veterinarian who encounters countless problems with both cats and dogs, some treatable and some not, and has come to the conclusion that the pet food industry has been slacking on the nutrition of these animals and goes out to openly criticize them for their failings. The author's debate is that chewing on bones enhances the strength in these animals mouths and also reduces infection and gum disease, which is very common as most of these animals eat processed food, which often leads to plague. We learn that puppies and kittens often end up with gingivitis, and without proper gum massage, the disease persists, and due to this, many of them do not have a full set of teeth, and those that do may be subjected to a lifetime of pain. Tom uses rabbits as an example to better explain the difference between raw foods and cooked foods and the pros and cons that it has on these animals. If you are one of those that require guidance in how to care for your pets better, then this book is definitely for you.

The book begins with a small introduction about the author and where he studied and thereafter moves onto the back and forth debate on pet nutrition in the pet food industry. The author speaks about the preservatives used in pet food and the chemicals that it contains. Lastly, Dr. Tom Lonsdale advises on foods to avoid and how to care for your pets in terms of buying and storing their meat.

The book has been thoroughly researched, and the author uses both tables and illustrations in his book to support his theories. The author's emotions can be seen in the way that he disagrees with the food industry, which shows the love and care he has for these animals.

There is nothing to dislike about the book. It was well edited, and I did not encounter any errors, which showed professionalism in the author's writing; hence, I rate it a 5 out of 5

The book is recommended to pet lovers, and personally, I feel that it is one that will help them in looking after their pets whilst at the same time reducing their stress and concern when it comes to their health.
