Fred Sievert’s “Fast-Starting a Career of Consequence,” in a nutshell, is a detailed guideline on how Christians should deal with the struggles of workplaces in the modern world. Based on the author’s life, this book combines prayers and practical concepts about the working world to provide readers with the means to construct meaningful and influential vocations.

The entire book is written in the form of teaching lessons that are to be followed in life by a daughter from her father, which makes it easy to follow. Sievert writes about the role of faith at work, stating that faith is good and that Christianity in the workplace can be advantageous. In particular, the author comes up with some useful advice on an array of aspects of career advancement, such as interpersonal interactions, management, and leadership. I loved all this about this book. It is necessary to note that Sievert does not limit readers to the plan of quick and easy ways to become successful; instead, the author focuses on such human assets as integrity, humility, and perseverance—the things that can help people cope with challenges and struggles from a long-term perspective. Moreover, it is a useful guide for developing sound interpersonal relationships, especially in the area of networking. Its editing was exceptional.

As it is, "Fast-Starting a Career of Consequence” is a good introduction for Christian professionals, but a bit more information on the realities of choosing one type of job over another from the viewpoint of handling difficulties would be helpful. Moreover, the book is mostly oriented toward workers who practice their trade in a conventional setting, so some readers might not appreciate it. Weighing the cons I found, I will deduct a star and rate this book four out of five stars.

Nevertheless, “Fast-Starting a Career of Consequence” is a useful tool for Christians who want to bring change to their organizations. Nonetheless, the clear and specific guidelines and the spiritual approach to a personal career may bring comfort to readers who can be motivated to get wanted results while following deep values.
