The book "Quest: Finding Freddie" by Thomas Richard Spradlin recounts the story of Frederick David Nachman, known as Freddie, who was the President and CEO of Nachman International Trading Corporation (NITC). During a business visit to Lagos, Nigeria, where Freddie aimed to secure a contract with the Nigerian government, he inexplicably disappeared. His wife, Ruth Nachman, sought help from Clifford & Warnke, a law firm in Washington, to locate and bring Freddie back to New York. Thomas Richard Spradlin, a partner at Clifford, was assigned the task of finding him in Nigeria.

Freddie vanished in Lagos, Nigeria, on August 14, 1976, during a period of political turmoil, which serves as the focal event of the book. Despite being a foreigner, Richard Spradlin's skill in assembling an exceptional team within Nigeria was noteworthy. The political environment in Nigeria was volatile, marked by a recent military coup attempt and the assassination of General Murtala Muhammed earlier that year, intensifying the challenges in locating Freddie and heightening the precarious nature of the situation.

The history lesson in this book was enlightening, as it expanded my limited knowledge of Nigeria. I was impressed by the author's extensive knowledge. The book, set in post-colonial Nigeria around 1976, is divided into thirteen chapters from A to M. It’s a true story, though it’s unfortunate that only Mr. Spradlin could be rescued. The plot and narration were engaging and accessible, particularly for a non-fiction book. Footnotes provided further information on certain topics.

I thoroughly enjoyed the book and found the author's information engaging. The author skillfully sets the stage, making the complex quest to find Freddie understandable. The events are described sequentially, building suspense and encouraging continued reading. I learned many valuable lessons from the book. I didn't find anything in this book that I disliked.

I enthusiastically give this book 5 out of 5 stars. Although I noticed some errors that could have been improved with more editing, they didn't detract from my overall enjoyment. The book provided valuable insights into Nigeria's history. I recommend it to history buffs and adventure lovers.
