WHO TOLD THAT YOU ARE NAKED BY WILLIAM E. COMBS
A Christian book offering Christian believers a different perspective of sin to what is believed by most of Christian community. WILLIAM E. COMBS begins by re-visiting the Garden of Eden where he takes the reader through the events in the garden the night Adam and Eve ate the fruit of knowledge of good and bad. This time the focus is on the difference between the couple before eating the fruit and after eating the fruit. Even though the couple had been naked this whole time, their perception of their nakedness changes after the consumption of the fruit.
The book is my personal favorite among Christian books that I have read so far. This is because it focuses on the root of sin instead of a list of wrongdoings which we normally refer to as sin. It highlights the real meaning of righteousness therefore making readers realize that it is not something humans can achieve by simply following a set of do’s and don’ts. Righteousness is presented as a gift of God’s grace obtained by faith not something to work for. Here is a cote from sixth chapter of the book “…the Lord “counted” our sin to Jesus so that, through His death, God “counts” His righteousness to all who believe”.
The best part about the book is the way the author breaks both the problem and the solution in stages so that the reader is not overwhelmed. Every problem or question that rises as you read has a solution. He does not only points out certain methods are wrong but also gives an alternative approach supported by Bible verses.
The only problem I had with the book was the questions at the end of every chapter. I found them a bit of an inconvenience as it takes time to answer them.
I would rate the book 4 out of 4 stars. It is well written, captivating and has generally no grammatical errors.
The book is for those who want to know God on a personal level, who want to have a relationship with God instead of trying to gain His favor by obeying Dos and Don’ts. I would also recommend it for those who want to know what Christianity is about, in my opinion the book offers the best way to look at it. However for those who believe carefully observing commandments in the bible is the only way to please God, the book might not be as appealing.
