Review of Quest: Finding Freddie
The following is a review of Quest: Finding Freddie[\i] by Thomas Richard Spradlin.
David Bachman, or Freddie as everyone referred to him, was on a business trip to Lagos, Nigeria, where he went missing on August 10th. Freddie never got US citizenship even though he lived in the US for 30 years, and his wife Ruth was a citizen.
Born in Sweden, when it came to getting involved in his disappearance, both the US and Swedish embassies did not want to get involved.
Richard, a lawyer from Washington DC and also a client of the Nachmans, had gone to Nigeria on business recently and was somewhat familiar with how things were run and how to get around.
Freddie and Ruth, having their own law firm and being extremely wealthy, had business going on in Nigeria when the events took place. Freddie was there trying to bid for a contract.
Richard decided to pitch the idea to his law firm that he was capable of finding Mr. Nachman. He went to great lengths to come up with a plan and to help find him. Richard was the mastermind behind the plan and briefed his legal team on all that would be necessary if certain problems arose. There are many important details throughout the book that are key to understanding what is going on and at what lengths and the implications of such a quest to be carried out. I advise any reader to pay attention to all the small details as everything is important.
The book had me thinking many times about all the details that Richard remembered while writing this book, and I kept thinking to myself how crazy it was that even the conversations he had, how people dressed, behaved, etc., were all pertinent to finding Freddie, dead or alive.
One of the best books I've read, the editing was great and there were no errors, the suspense/mystery kept me on my toes, the bravery and quick thinking on the main character's part, the problems/obstacles that Richard faced, and his ability to put things together quickly to make sense of them left me amazed throughout the entire book.
I thought that the fact that a lawyer went through these lengths to find someone instead of someone of higher power left a lot to be said about how our government works. Richard thought much like a detective and went above and beyond his job description every step of the way, putting his life at risk.
I recommend this book to anyone looking for a true crime book with some twists and turns as the mystery unfolds.
For all the reasons mentioned above, I give this book a 5 out of 5. Can’t wait to buy a copy to add to my favorite’s!
