Breaking the Mold: Remodeling Your Way to Success is one of the few business books I can confidently classify as “truly helpful”. It is not just a business book, but a self-help book too. Fabian Videla has successfully written a book that will be helpful for business owners and the average Joe alike.

The personal stories Fabian included in the book made it an enjoyable read. Each chapter starts with a story that relates to the chapter and lesson. These stories make the author relatable. Readers can identify with a lot of what he’s experienced. Who hasn’t had a penny-pinching grandma?

“I challenge you to find one lesson or one story in this book that you can use to better yourself or your company or to help somebody else.”

The above quote (found in the book introduction) reiterates Fabian’s goal of writing a book that can be used for business, personal growth, or even helping someone else. After reading Breaking the Mold: Remodeling Your Way to Success, I was hard-pressed to find just one helpful lesson but “Do not accept abusive behavior” in chapter 29 would be my top pick. Fabian took a different approach to the “customer’s always right” mantra in this chapter.

The additional block sections at the end of each chapter helped bring the chapters to an appropriate conclusion. Many of these lessons can be applied to other parts of life. You don’t have to be a boss to know that “honest work pays off” or a business owner to benefit from good networking skills. The author is invested in helping his readers.

This book isn’t for people looking for a quick climb to success. The author highlights the challenging reality that comes with chasing one's dreams. We see this transparency as early as page nine. This transparency helps readers to set realistic expectations for their remodeling endeavors.

The underlying lesson of the book is overcoming your fears and the quote below perfectly sums up this message.

“Don’t let fear stop you from seeking greatness and achieving it.”

I give the book a rating of five out of five. There wasn't anything in the book that I disliked and the editing was nearly impeccable. Fabian Vivelda managed to write an excellent book that can be used in various avenues. Readers will be encouraged by all the exhortations and lessons at the end of each chapter. The book is both relatable and practical and the tips are easy to follow. This book is a must-read for anyone looking to remodel their way to success in any area of their life.
