The Successful Business Startup Action Guide by Husam S. AlSaleh is a deep dive into the author’s framework and mindset for creating and running successful startups. Using the lessons learned from his past and current business ventures, including the unsuccessful ones, the author provides aspiring entrepreneurs with a robust template for future business ideas that enhance their goal-orientedness, sustainability, competitiveness, profitability, and more. The author not only covered traditional entrepreneurship topics, such as identifying the problem and researching the market but also discussed topics that are relatively new to me, such as knowing when to hire or fire an employee and understanding the common pitfalls to success in business.

What I like the most about this book is that the author uses multiple, often funny, anecdotes to illustrate the concepts he is explaining. For example, the author narrated how his time working as a janitor in his father's company and walking his way up the corporate ladder helped him identify the employees and sectors of the business that were underperforming and needed improvements. Another story about the author's conversation in a taxi illustrates why copying a business idea from someone else without fully understanding why it worked or failed is a recipe for disaster. Every business decision an entrepreneur makes should align with the company's goals. An entrepreneur whose business goal is to offer the cheapest value to customers should not be making the expensive employee hires that a business that provides premium options makes. By far, the most valuable thing I learned in this book is Porter's Five Forces, a framework to assess the sustainability of a business idea. This concept is relatively new to me, and this book provided me with a brief introduction and its applicability to the real world.

I rate this book five out of five stars. It was well-edited, and it does not contain any instances of sex or violence. It features, however, a couple of non-borderline profanities. I loved the author’s lesson-filled anecdotes and the conversational tone throughout the book, making this book easy to understand. Other than the author’s occasional self-advertisements, which don’t deserve a rating deduction, I have nothing to criticize about this book. I highly recommend this book to readers of all religions, especially aspiring entrepreneurs.
