Review of Play Golf Better Faster: The Classic Guide to Optimizing Your Performance and Building Your Best Fast
"Play Golf Better Faster: The Classic Guide to Optimizing Your Performance and Building Your Best Fast Kalliope Barlis is focusing on the mental aspect of the game to help improve the reader’s golf skills, irrespective of their level. The book is divided into three sections, each focusing on a critical aspect of golfing: getting mentally prepared, mastering the correct strategies, and applying the strategies on the course.
Each of the five sections of the book covers a specific element of her character, which, according to Barlis, led her to professional golf in a short time, and the first section deals with the mental aspect greatly. There is hardly a more accentuated approach to target subjects and a positive mindset called neuro-linguistic programming (NLP). These ideas of Barlis on wiping out the dreadful shots and fixing the good ones are especially helpful for the golf player in a bid to shape the mental approach towards the game.
The second part of the book dedicated to practice provides a systemized plan for honing the newly acquired skills. It is very detailed in the strategies that Barlis indicates on how the practice of the cello should be done, stressing the factors of time and correct execution. The drills and exercises are realistic and easy to implement; thus, this part of the book will be useful for either the client or the novice or expert player.
The last part synthesizes the linking of practice and performance and the convergence of specificity and strategy. Barlis gives possibilities for target choice, warm-up activities, and stress control that are vital in confirming efficiency in the field. Some of her advice, such as embracing a good mood and enjoying the game, can be considered powerful observations of why people engage in sports in the first place.
A rather small deficiency of the book is the lack of illustrations, for at least some of the ideas presented. On the one hand, the text is quite clear and informative; however, from time to time, diagrams or illustrations can help the reader comprehend the peculiarities of swing mechanics or practice drills. Still, the content of the text is clear and easily understandable; the chapters are interconnected and proceed from the previous ones.
The proofreading is also well done, and there are no mistakes, which reflects the quality of the book. H is self-explanatory in some ways, and in other ways, Barlis has a writing style of motivation and simplicity; it’s easy to comprehend practically everything she puts in her writing. I personally tested her evolution from a beginner to a professional in no more than two years, and this proves the efficiency of her strategies.
In conclusion, I give ‘‘ Play Golf Better Faster’’ 4 out of 5 stars. The mental and physical approaches combined with comprehensive, easy-to-execute exercises make the book a valuable addition to the golfer’s toolbox. One small downside of the guide is that there are no pictures or diagrams to support what is being explained. However, this greatly hinders the functionality of the guide. I would greatly recommend this book for anyone who wants to elevate their golfing skills and have fun while at it.
