Breaking the Mold: Remodeling Your Way to Success by Fabian Videla is an uplifting and inspiring story of grass to grace, rags to riches and how hard work, discipline and perseverance would take you far. It’s also a story of humility and how it can impact crucial areas of your life, especially your business; humility can make or mare your endeavours.

Fabian grew up in Mendoza, a town in Argentina, with his whole family, including extended family members. Some of his earliest memories of life lessons were from his family members: his mum, who was a homemaker; his grandmother, who cleaned houses; his dad, who worked at a restaurant; and many others like his uncle, who inspired him so much and also played a vital part in starting his very first business even as a child. He learned honesty in labour and the importance of reading every chance you get, which he explained as ”the cheapest education you can give yourself “. He dreamed big and worked even harder to achieve his dreams.

I like how the author, a successful businessman in the construction industry in the United States, in this book gives out tips and secrets on necessities every business needs to succeed, from personal experience to organisational knowledge from running a successful business, which can help your business grow and thrive even in your absence and most importantly the importance of profit. He even provided links to people you can contact for specific business needs, such as personal bankers and insurance agents, getting your business and professional license, etc.

While reading this book, I encountered no errors, which shows that it was exceptionally well-edited. As an entrepreneur, I learned so much from this book; I learned not to compete with others based on just price. Adding value is way more important than reducing cost; it is better to add value and sell higher as people will pay more for value, and in the absence of value, your product will compete on just price, which is never good. I also learned that profit is not as bad as people would make it sound; making plans for profit and profit from your business is crucial.

I would recommend this book to businesses and business owners, both the employer and the employees; there’s something for everyone in this book. I would also recommend it to anyone interested in starting up a business in the United States or anywhere in the world; there’s knowledge in this book that your business will thank you for having. I would also recommend it to people who like self-help books. Finally, I’m rating this book five out of five stars because I loved everything about it. There were no negative aspects to it or anything that needed improvement.

I love how the book doesn’t shy away from discussing the importance of profit. In a world where profit is sometimes seen as a dirty word, Fabian makes a compelling case for why it’s essential to plan for profit in your business. His perspective on adding value over just competing on price is eye-opening and has changed the way I think about my own business strategy.

The personal anecdotes from Fabian’s early life in Mendoza add a rich, authentic layer to the book. Hearing about his family’s influence, especially the lessons he learned from his grandmother and uncle, gives you a sense of the values that shaped him. These stories are not just inspirational; they’re relatable, making the book feel like a conversation with a mentor.
