The Eschatology of the Christian Era by L. D. Swift discusses the Apostles' questions to Jesus regarding the destruction of the temple and the sign of his coming and the end of the age. Jesus answers these questions in two parts - first, he provides details about the destruction of the temple, and second, he discusses the sign of his coming and the end of the age. The document explains that the first question is about the timing of the temple's destruction, which Jesus answers in Matthew 24:4-35. The second question is about the sign of Jesus' coming (parousia) and the end of the age, which Jesus also addresses. The book also discusses different views on the meaning of the parousia, including preterism which holds that it occurred in AD 70, and premillennialism which believes Christ will return in the future to establish an earthly kingdom. The document argues against the preterist view and affirms the traditional understanding of the parousia as Christ's final return at the end of the age.

The book aims to reveal God's plan for the future of the Christian community, which is presented in a clear and orderly manner, without the many details and complexities that often confuse the topic of Christian eschatology. It provides a reasonable and orderly eschatology revealed in the New Testament, which fulfills the Old Testament prophecies without proposing that God failed to establish the Messianic Kingdom in the first century. The book also presents the eschatology of the Christian era as taught by Jesus in the Olivet Discourse, which serves as the "master template" for understanding the key events and timeline, rather than relying on more modern and speculative theories like dispensationalism. Moreover, this book highlights the importance of using a sound biblical hermeneutic and avoiding speculative conjectures that inevitably breed error when studying Christian eschatology.

I also encountered some drawbacks while reading the book. In the book, preterism is seen as a highly problematic and destructive interpretation that distorts core Christian doctrines and the prophetic vision of Revelation. I recommend this book to students of biblical eschatology and end-times prophecy. This book was exceptionally well-edited without errors and I did not encounter any negative aspects of the book. The book therefore deserves a rating of 5 out of 5 stars.
