Who told you that you were naked? By William E. Combs is what I would describe as a Christian study book. Most of us know the story of Adam and Eve. Eve was coerced by the serpent to eat the forbidden fruit and then gave some to Adam. This book breaks down the story and focuses on how sin entered this world through Adam, but also how we are redeemed through God by his grace.

This book is introduced with a story from the author’s childhood. It begins with fear and darkness that pulls you into the story, to the point where you can feel the emotions of the child. The story ends with the feeling of safety as God lights the sky and shows that he was there, protecting the child. It is the perfect story to lead into chapter one.

The first couple of chapters focus on Adam and Eve and the Garden of Eden. The author created a back story of what their lives may have been like, so that we could get a sense of what was happening around that time. Personally I found this to be a bit confusing and it pulled me away from the facts which are stated in the bible.

However, I did like that for each fact that was stated; the author included the verse and chapter so we are able to follow along using our own bibles. I also liked that there were study questions, which makes me think this book is more of a study guide that could be used in church groups.
An aspect I enjoyed was the stories of the author’s personal encounters and how they influenced his life. This book is not only about the beginning of sin, but it is also about salvation and faith that is shown throughout the bible.

The writing style and editing of this book is fantastic, as I found no errors and the whole story flowed nicely together. Unfortunately, I did get confused at some parts of the book and I found it difficult to understand with what the author was trying to convey. But that does not reflect on the author, other people may understand it perfectly fine.

Overall I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars because it was a fantastic, intriguing read. It has some great points that I have never thought of, and has got me thinking about what life would have been like in the Garden of Eden. This book is perfect if you want to know more about the events and meanings of Adam and Eve’s time in the Garden of Eden. I highly recommend it for adults but feel it may be difficult for teenagers or younger children to fully understand. Once you begin to read this book it will draw you in until the very end.
