Quest: Finding Freddie by Thomas Richard Spradlin takes you on a suspenseful journey to locate a missing businessman, Frederick David Nachman (often referred to as Freddie). The story unfolds in 1976, a time of political tension, and follows Richard Spradlin, a lawyer tasked with finding Freddie, who vanished from his hotel room in Lagos, Nigeria. This book shines in its portrayal of the determination and resourcefulness required in such a complex situation. Spradlin, already familiar with Lagos from a previous trip, dives headfirst into the search. He utilizes his connections and navigates a challenging political landscape to find answers. The narrative captures the urgency and emotional toll of Freddie's disappearance, particularly for his wife.

The book's greatest strength lies in its captivating mystery. Freddie's sudden disappearance on a seemingly ordinary walk throws his life and business into disarray. Spradlin, with his knowledge of the city from a previous trip, is uniquely positioned to spearhead the search. The reader is drawn into the investigation alongside Spradlin, piecing together clues and navigating the complexities of a foreign country. The urgency of finding Freddie in a nation with simmering political tensions adds another layer of suspense. The narrative style keeps you turning pages, eager to discover Freddie's fate. I learn about the challenges of navigating a foreign legal system and the importance of building trust with the locals. The book sheds light on the political climate of the time, particularly the tension between the Jewish community and some segments of the Nigerian population. This historical context adds depth to the story and provides a more complete understanding of the challenges Spradlin faces.

I rate the book 5 out of 5 stars. Spradlin's unwavering determination to find Freddie shines through the pages. Despite facing numerous obstacles, including language barriers, limited resources, and political red tape, he never gives up hope. His dedication and perseverance are truly inspiring. I have nothing to dislike about this book. The book contains a few grammatical errors. This book is a captivating read for anyone interested in true-crime stories and mystery novels.
