A Troop Gathers Round: The Day Gay America Came To Washington by Jack Garman offers a firsthand account of an important event in the ongoing fight for gay rights and equality in America. Written by Jack, who was an observer present at the scene, this book provides the sights, sounds, emotions, and raw energy of this historic moment when the Gay, Lesbian, and Bi Rights and Liberation community came together in Washington to make their voices heard and demand to be treated fairly.

The book doesn't just tell what happened that day. It also explains why this day was so important. It shows how this was a turning point that helped move the Gay, Lesbian, and Bi Rights and Liberation movement forward. The author does a great job of taking the personal stories and experiences of the people there and connecting them to the bigger picture of the fight for equality. This helped me understand how this gathering in the nation's capital was a huge step towards justice and equal rights for the LGBTQ+ community.

I love how reading this book makes me feel like I was actually there and was the one experiencing the event firsthand. I also love how Jack blends his personal experiences with rich historical context, providing an essential perspective on a truly wonderful event. My favorite person in this story is Matt, who showed his enthusiasm for being a part of the march and how happy and joyful he was about carrying the banner for the march.

I recommend this book to anyone seeking to understand the hard-fought journey toward LGBTQ+ rights and the determination of the community to be seen, heard, and celebrated. I would also recommend this book to LGBTQ+ individuals, history enthusiasts, young adult readers, LGBTQ+ allies, and educators looking to engage students with impactful narratives of the fight for equality. I found A Troop Gathers Round: The Day Gay America Came To Washington by Jack Garman to be quite moving and captivating from start to finish. It honors the bravery and resolve of the LGBTQ+ community in a way that will resonate deeply, whether you were there or not. I love how this isn't just a dry retelling; it's a well-detailed firsthand experience. Apart from the minor errors I encountered while reading the book, there was nothing I disliked about it. It is my pleasure to rate it 5 out of 5 stars.
