Quest: Finding Freddie by Thomas Richard Spradlin tells the true story of Frederick Nachman, a Jewish businessman who vanished from his hotel in Lagos, Nigeria, on August 14, 1976, when he came to finalize a deal with the Nigerian government. His distraught wife hires lawyer Thomas Spradlin to investigate and retrieve her husband. Spradlin bravely ventured into Lagos, encountering both bureaucratic hurdles and cultural insights during his search for Frederick Nachman.

Thomas Spradlin faced obstacles at the Swedish and US embassies in Lagos. Despite knowing about Nachman's disappearance, the Swedish and US embassies refused to help. This heightened the tension, leaving me eager to discover how Spradlin would overcome these challenges and solve the case. The vivid descriptions and well-paced suspense kept the reader engaged. The book explores the country's rich economic past, contrasting it with the present to spark reflection.

The book keeps readers guessing with its suspenseful plot and real-life inspiration. Despite the dangers he faced, the author's determination to find the truth shines through. As I picked up this captivating mystery book, my mind was hooked until the very end. The author's humor, engaging writing style, and fluent narrative made the book a compelling read.

The author's storytelling is truly captivating, masterfully recreating events while also conveying the emotional depth of those involved. This nuanced approach drew me in, making me feel the emotional ups and downs of the characters as the story unfolded. Their struggles resonated deeply, especially Nwando's story. The resolution for the perpetrators felt satisfying, delivering a sense of justice. I couldn't find any drawbacks to this book.

Richard's resourcefulness and countenance throughout the mission, especially his respectful treatment of everyone he met, were admirable. This aspect reverberated most with me. Although I encountered a few errors, this didn't sway me from my overall enjoyment of the book. This book gets 5 out of 5 stars for me. This book is highly recommended to anyone interested in post-war Nigeria and living in Lagos.
