28 Disastrous Dates: A (Mostly True) Humorous Memoir by Poppy Mortimer is a delightful read chronicling the author's series of hilariously disastrous dates. Each chapter recounts a different date, starting from how she met the guy and following to take us through the disastrous events of the date itself. Spanning her dating escapades across London, Australia, and Los Angeles over twenty years, Mortimer skillfully turns each misadventure into an entertaining story.

Every chapter begins with age, location, where she met the date, and how he asked the author out for a date. This helps us to have a general idea before we begin with the next date. Also, every chapter ends with what she learned from that particular date. What stands out is Mortimer's ability to weave humor into her tales, making readers feel like they're chatting with a close friend. Her wit shines through in every chapter, delivering laugh-out-loud moments with her sharp observations and witty commentary.

The book strikes a chord with anyone who has endured their share of awful dates. Despite encountering twenty-eight cringe-worthy scenarios, Mortimer's resilience in the pursuit of love is admirable. She emphasizes the importance of staying true to oneself and not compromising happiness for the sake of others, a theme subtly woven into her humorous anecdotes.

I found no negative aspects, and there were no spelling or grammatical errors. Despite that, I would only recommend this book to adults since there are quite some references to sex and her experiences involving it.

Mortimer's writing is polished and error-free, ensuring a smooth and engaging read from start to finish. 28 Disastrous Dates earns a rating of five out of five stars for its refreshing humor and relatable insights into the complexities of modern dating. It's a good read for anyone who enjoys humorous memoirs and wants a glimpse into the ups and downs of romantic adventures.
