Love Is by Kim Sorrelle

Love Is is a non-fiction book by the writer, entrepreneur and NGO director, Kim Sorrelle. I was enticed by the book’s unique name and description to choose it and I enjoyed my reading journey.

Being the director of a humanitarian organization named ‘Rays of Hope’, the author depicts her journey in Haiti for various humanitarian needs and how she explores love in different situations. The author’s narrative shows her deep attachment to God and His words on love. She describes love through patience, kindness, humbleness, hope, trust, perseverance and protection as she does her philanthropic activities in Haiti. Her works show her genuine love and affection towards the suffering common people.

The author embodies her mishaps, struggles, and reflections to make her narrative poignant. She emphasizes the importance of practising love and kindness in everyday life. She openly admits her flaws like impatience, unkind behaviour, jealousy, boastful nature, and pride and also tries hard to overcome these through her unfaltering faith and love for Christ.

Though this book mainly describes Kim’s experience in Haiti, she also mentions her encounter with Hugo Chavez and his pride. Being an American citizen, she never fails to criticize American snobbishness. She portrays that the work culture in the USA is patriarchal and does not appreciate women's participation but rather harasses them.

I was amazed by the author’s engaging and conversational writing style. The use of personal stories and experiences adds authenticity to her narrative. As she shows her vulnerability and success, the book becomes inspiring for the readers.

The book is overly idealistic in its discussion of love. Here, the author mentions various Biblical events which seem incomprehensible to non-Christian readers.

The book is not professionally edited and I noticed spelling mistakes and typos in this book. I like to give this book a rating of 4 out of 5. I like to recommend this book to those who want to be better human beings through the virtues of love and kindness.
