Review of A Christian Life.....Connected
In the book A Christian Life.....Connected, written by Jacksel, readers are privileged to have a glimpse of the author’s life experiences. During the course of the story, the author extends the reader an invasive look at fragments of his childhood and youth, describing meetings with time-bending accidents that resulted in temporary losses of consciousness accompanied by numerous visits to the hospital. These become a rich source of his character and endow him with the traits of the body as a survival structure and the values of patience and perseverance.
Moving on to his school education, the author shares the problems he had to solve, starting with fights and ending with bullying. Thus, he wonders if these adversities were beneficial in teaching them about life, hardships, and suffering—a lesson in unity as opposed to suffering alone.
In his self-reflective narrative, the author effectively juxtaposes the main protagonist’s more ordinary life with the ordeals of others, including individuals with mental disorders and, specifically, homeless people. It also demonstrates the severity of the current situation due to the presence of troubled faces in crowded city areas and moving stories about homeless people.
The story revolves around personal encounters with people of different origins and stations in life to illustrate, in a jovial manner nonetheless, the author’s flex of the ability to understand others and a desire to forge a proper relationship with them. The author comments on the inherent value and respect that all people deserve, despite the environment in which they are placed. The author also presents his personal observations concerning Catholicism and the Methodist Church, as well as other Christian denominations such as the Mennonite Church.
I admire the author’s point of view and their ability to analyze mental health issues, as well as social injustice, with clear sensitivity. The smooth integration of autobiographical elements and historical facts produces a complex image of people and their lives, opening readers to the themes of interpersonal trust and individual strength. The author’s call-to-action and fight for change stir feelings and thoughts of empathy and engagement with those who struggle, commonly encouraging self-reflection in the reader.
I have no dislikes for this book. It compels me to mention that the editing of the book is exceptional, and there is not even a single error throughout the book. This book contains profanity.
I give this book 5 out of 5 stars for shedding light on mental illness, understanding, and the obstacles that people face. Although Christianity is evident in the plot, the book is safe for all religions since the main message is the need for people to accept each other and show kindness. I believe this book fits well for anyone who wishes to read books that provide characters’ insights, social themes, and books that bring out the virtues of compassion and tolerance.
