Through Withered Weeds Flowers Bloom by B. E. Thompson is a non-fiction and personal memoir by the author, sharing her experiences through life through the stages of a flower. Karen, the author, was born in a dysfunctional home; she had an abusive stepfather and a mother who battled with mental health issues and was not able to provide the required care a mother should. She suffered different forms of abuse when she was a child, and she also suffered neglect as a child. Despite all this gloom in her childhood, there were still some good seeds that later helped her in life. In her life, she encountered people who were a source of encouragement and support: her probation officer, Mr. Jeremy Cameron, and others. Karen's story shows that your beginning does not determine how your end will be.

The author shares a very motivational and inspirational story that captures the blossoming of her life from a background that would have made her be written off in life. She shares her experience while also noting that her faith has helped her achieve what she thought she would not have been able to. She shares a story of trauma, abuse, neglect, pain, loss, threat to life, discipline, passion, renewal, and blossoming. She also talks about the issue of nature versus nurture.

What I enjoyed most about this book was reading about the people in her life who were like a breath of fresh air and sunlight in a dark world—those who played a role in her transformation and her growth process. I also admire Karen's passion and discipline, her determination to succeed despite the background she had and the misfortunes in her life.

I commend the author for sharing her story on the pages of this book. I learned a lot from this book, one of which was that for a flower to truly grow well, you need to remove the withered weeds that are hindering its growth. Though one thing I find confusing and don't like about the book is the fact that in the author's initials there is no K, her name, as told in the story, is Karen.

I rate the book 4 out of 5 stars . The reason the book does not get a perfect rating is, as I explained earlier, the discrepancy between the author's name and the name used in the book. Karen's story is amazing and inspiring, and I recommend it to those out there who may feel like all hope is lost and who have come from a background that did not give them what was required to succeed in life. It's a true story that says that you can be better, you can reach that height, and that with the right determination and faith, you can turn your life around.
